I was writing a post about programming that will finish soon but something more important came up and I want to make it public now. It’s something very weird, some people ripped off the Fiery Squirrel’s logo and they are using it in their own projects.
Recently a friend of mine contacted me, asking about the logo, he saw it somewhere on the internet and thought that I stole it and used it here. Well, the situation is the opposite, the logo you see now on the site, was made for Fiery Squirrel (Game Developer), source files (created in Inkscape), previous versions, color and shape tests are all here and they are included with this post for you to see them.
The logo has been evolving since the idea of making Fiery Squirrel started. Here are some of the more relevant changes:
First some test drawings were created to give shape to the main idea: how would a fiery squirrel look. I probably should have included fire somewhere but, instead, I decided to use orange which was simple to make (wanted to have the first logo done as soon as possible).
After getting inspiration from other images, the idea of having a shaped squirrel like drawing + an S on its tail was borned.
Once the shape was looking better, the tail was changed to make it look more like an S and the orange color changed a bit too.
Finally after some changes and noticing that the “Fiery” was important to make it clear that it’s not called only “Squirrel” the word Fiery was added to the logo as well.
There are many more changes and it’s actually being improved at the moment to create some simpler and cleaner that represents better what Fiery Squirrel really is.
As you can see, I’m not a graphic designer but I like graphics, images, illustration a lot, in addition, I wold need more money to get a better logo and still cannot afford it. For creating this and some other images, Gabriel Balda (who is a graphic designer) helped me, giving me advices on how to make it better and more stilized.
Now, the reason to mention this is, some people have taken and used the Fiery Squirrel logo and used it in their own projects, that’s why I wanted to make clear how the image was created.
People from a soccer team included and used our logo as their team’s logo (with no changes at all). You can take a look at their site:
I’m not sure if their team has anything to do with a Fiery Squirrel or an orange squirrel or something related.
Also the logo was used in a students project, I think, you can see it here they changed the color and put it there.
This is not a big deal but I want that when people look at our logo they recognize us. Since Fluff Eaters release, I’ve been working hard to try to get attention from people and built a name around it.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not angry I will not try to sue anyone here or something, this is actually something I consider a good thing, I would never expect that someone would do this but considering they did, it probably means they like the logo and I’m very happy about it but also would be nice that people know it’s us and we are making games for people to enjoy.
In addition, my friend mentioned that he saw Fiery’s logo somewhere else as well. I haven’t found where but in case you see it please post it here.
Anyway, to end this now, changes are still being made at the moment to improve the current logo, hopefully will become better and now that I know this, maybe will try something more distinctive to avoid misunderstandings. If you see this orange squirrel somewhere, please remember that the Fiery Squirrel is making some games now, go and play them!
